Macron Optimistic About Ceasefire Between Ukraine and Russia Within Weeks

World

French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed optimism that a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could be achieved in the coming weeks. In a recent interview with Fox News following discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Macron emphasized that any peace agreement must safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty and be supported by security guarantees.

Macron suggested that a truce could be the first step, followed by negotiations addressing issues like security, land, territory, and reconstruction. He also highlighted the critical role of security guarantees for Ukraine, including bolstering the country’s military capabilities.

Macron noted that he had spoken to over 30 European leaders and allies, many of whom are prepared to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine. He is also working with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on a proposal for peacekeeping forces, not for direct confrontation but as a stabilizing presence in key locations.

A key aspect of ensuring U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, according to Macron, could be a deal on rare earth minerals, which the U.S. and Ukraine are currently negotiating.

Macron’s comments suggest a multi-faceted approach to peace, involving the U.S., European allies, and Ukraine, with a focus on long-term security and diplomatic resolution.
