Vantage Data Centers has unveiled plans for its largest investment to date: a $25 billion hyperscale data center campus named “Frontier,” set to rise in Shackelford County, Texas. The development marks a significant milestone in the company’s global expansion and reflects the growing demand for infrastructure capable of supporting artificial intelligence (AI) workloads.

📍 Project Overview

The Frontier campus will span 1,200 acres and feature:

  • 10 high-performance data centers totaling 3.7 million square feet
  • 1.4 gigawatts (GW) of total IT capacity, optimized for GPU-intensive AI applications
  • Ultra high-density racks exceeding 250kW, supported by advanced liquid cooling systems
  • Closed-loop chiller technology designed to conserve water and reduce environmental impact

Construction is already underway, with the first facility expected to be operational in the second half of 2026.

👷 Economic and Employment Impact

Vantage estimates the project will generate over 5,000 jobs, spanning both construction and long-term operations. The company has also committed to local hiring and educational initiatives, including scholarship programs for Shackelford County students.

Dana Adams, President of North America at Vantage Data Centers, emphasized the strategic importance of the location:

“Texas has become a critical and strategic market for AI providers. The launch of our Frontier campus with 1.4GW of GPU compute capacity marks a watershed moment for Vantage as we deliver on our promise to meet the unprecedented requirements of our customers.”

🏛️ Government and Community Response

Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the investment, stating:

“Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes innovation and technology. Vantage Data Centers’ $25 billion investment will help create thousands of good-paying jobs for Texans and bring revenue to the local and state economies.”

Local officials echoed the sentiment, with Shackelford County Judge John Viertel describing the initiative as a “palpable recognition of the history and mindset still present in our region,” and expressing optimism about the long-term community benefits.

🌱 Sustainability and Design

The Frontier campus is being developed under Vantage’s “sustainable by design” blueprint. In addition to water-saving cooling systems, the company is pursuing LEED certification for the site, aligning with broader environmental goals in the data center industry.

🌐 Strategic Context

The announcement comes amid a surge in global investment in AI infrastructure. Vantage, which operates data centers across five continents, has recently expanded into Nevada and Arizona, and is part of a broader trend toward hyperscale development to meet rising compute demands.
