Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin has announced the temporary relocation of Irish diplomatic personnel from Tehran, citing growing concerns over staff safety due to escalating regional tensions between Iran and Israel.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has been actively monitoring developments and coordinating with European and regional partners. Embassy staff in Iran have been providing support to Irish citizens throughout the crisis.
“I have become increasingly concerned about the operational environment for our Embassy in Tehran and the ability of our staff to perform their duties safely,” the Tánaiste said.
Following consultations with departmental officials and in coordination with EU partners, the decision was made to relocate Embassy personnel. Embassy operations will now be managed from Dublin, with consular services and citizen assistance overseen by Department headquarters.
The Tánaiste thanked Ambassador Laoise Moore and her team for their professionalism and commitment under difficult conditions.
🚨 Travel Advisory
The Department’s travel advice remains unchanged: Irish citizens are strongly advised not to travel to Iran.
Those currently in Iran who wish to leave should consider departing via open land borders, if safe.
Irish citizens with concerns about family or friends in Iran can contact the Department’s consular team at:
📞 +353 (0)1 408 2527
📞 +353 (0)1 408 2000 (out of hours)
🕊️ Call for De-escalation
The Tánaiste reiterated Ireland’s commitment to a diplomatic resolution and called for restraint on all sides:
“My hope is that a diplomatic solution can be found to resolve this conflict, without further escalation or loss of life in Iran or Israel.”
The Tánaiste is expected to discuss the latest developments with EU counterparts in Brussels on Monday.
