✈️ Budapest Airport Celebrates 65 Years of Austrian Airlines Service to the Hungarian Capital

Budapest, August 8, 2025 — Budapest Airport, a proud member of the VINCI Airports network, has marked a major aviation milestone as Austrian Airlines celebrates 65 years of continuous service between Vienna and Budapest. Since its inaugural flight to Hungary in 1960, the Austrian flag carrier has played a pivotal role in connecting Central Europe to global destinations.

🛫 A Legacy of Connectivity

Austrian Airlines currently operates up to 21 flights per week during the peak summer season (S25) and 18–21 flights weekly in winter (W25), offering an annual seat capacity of approximately 212,000 from Budapest. The short 45-minute flight between the two capitals serves primarily as a transfer route, with over 90% of passengers continuing on to other destinations via Vienna International Airport.

From Budapest, Austrian Airlines provides seamless connections to key European cities such as:

  • Hamburg
  • Prague
  • Sofia
  • Venice

And to major long-haul destinations including:

  • New York (JFK)
  • Newark (EWR)
