The Yankees made a huge signing this offseason with the addition of all-star pitcher Carlos Rodon. Unfortunately, Rodon has yet to make his debut in New York.
And sure, the season is still incredibly young so it’s not like he’s missed all that significant of a chunk of time. The latest update from manager Aaron Boone is far from positive, though.
“Rodon has back tightness. It’s kind of delayed his next live [session] which was supposed to be [Monday]/[Tuesday],” Boone told the “Talkin’ Yanks” Podcast, as transcribed by ESPN. “So it’s probably going to be a few days. … Elbow-wise, he’s doing great. We’ll see how the next couple days are there. But we’re getting there.”
Rodon injured his left arm in spring training and was apparently making good progress in his rehab. He was scheduled to face hitters via a bullpen session this past Sunday and a live batting practice on Monday, but the back tightness is something new that he’s going to have contend with on his way to making his Yankees debut.
A nine-season pro who was an All-Star for the San Francisco Giants last season and previously for the Chicago White Sox, Rodon has a career ERA of 3.60 and a career WHIP of 1.24. He was 14-8 last season for the Giants with an ERA of 2.88 and a WHIP of 1.03. His WHIP in 2021 with the White Sox was 0.96.
