London, 1 October 2025 — The global community is mourning the death of Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned primatologist, conservationist, and United Nations Messenger of Peace, whose pioneering work transformed humanity’s understanding of the natural world.

Dr. Goodall passed away peacefully at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy defined by scientific brilliance, tireless advocacy, and profound compassion for animals and the environment. Her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park redefined the boundaries between humans and other primates, challenging long-held scientific assumptions and inspiring generations of researchers.

Appointed a UN Messenger of Peace in 2002, Dr. Goodall used her platform to champion environmental stewardship, animal welfare, and youth empowerment. Through the Jane Goodall Institute, founded in 1977, she spearheaded global conservation efforts and launched the Roots & Shoots programme, which continues to engage young people in over 100 countries.

Tributes have poured in from world leaders, scientists, and environmental organisations. The United Nations described her as “a beacon of hope and humanity,” while the Jane Goodall Institute said her life’s work “will continue to guide and inspire future generations.”

Dr. Goodall’s passing marks the end of an era, but her message — that every individual can make a difference — remains a rallying call for those committed to protecting the planet.
