The Commission has outlined plans to boost competitiveness, enhance security and strengthen economic resilience this year, with the announcement of its 2025 work programme. This is accompanied by a plan to reduce administrative burdens and simplify EU rules.
Every year, the Commission sets out a list of actions it will take in the following year. This time around, the Commission will focus on
- sustainable prosperity and competitiveness
- defence and security
- supporting people, strengthening our societies and our social model
- sustaining our quality of life
- protecting democracy and upholding our values
- leveraging power and partnerships around the world
- preparing our Union for the future
The work programme is the result of close cooperation with the European Parliament, Member States and EU consultative bodies. It looks at where it will present new initiatives, withdraw pending proposals and review existing EU legislation.
This year is also strongly focused on simplification. The Commission plans to make the implementation of EU rules easier in practice, to simplify them and to reduce administrative burdens. The Communication on Implementation and Simplification, also presented today, contains targets and tools to lighten the regulatory load and deliver fast and meaningful improvements for people and businesses.
