š Calgary, Canada ā WestJet has announced its largest-ever aircraft purchase, signing a deal with Boeing for 67 new jets as part of a long-term fleet expansion and renewal strategy. The order includes 60 Boeing 737-10 MAX narrowbody aircraft and seven 787-9 Dreamliner widebody jets, aimed at strengthening both domestic and international operations.
The agreement also includes options for 25 additional 737-10s and four more Dreamliners, bringing WestJetās total order book to 123 aircraft with 40 options. Deliveries are scheduled through 2034.
WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech said the new aircraft will support the airlineās commitment to affordable travel and sustainable growth. āThese highly efficient and comfortable aircraft are critical to the renewal of our fleet and will significantly improve fuel consumption,ā he stated.
The expanded Dreamliner fleet will bolster WestJetās long-haul routes to Europe, Asia, and Latin America, while the 737-10s will enhance domestic and transborder connectivity. Boeing highlighted the deal as a continuation of its three-decade partnership with the Canadian carrier.
With this order, WestJet now holds the largest aircraft backlog of any airline in Canada, positioning itself for substantial growth in the years ahead.
