OMAHA, Neb. — 27 June 2025 — Billionaire investor Warren Buffett donated $6 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock on Friday, marking his largest annual contribution since pledging to give away the majority of his fortune nearly 20 years ago.
The donation includes approximately 13 million Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway, distributed among five charitable organisations. The largest portion went to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with the remainder divided among four family foundations: the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named for Buffett’s late wife), and foundations run by his children Howard, Susan, and Peter.
This year’s donation surpasses previous annual gifts made by Buffett under his philanthropic pledge. Since 2006, the 93-year-old has given away over $56 billion, most of it in Berkshire stock.
Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, is one of the most prominent members of the Giving Pledge — an initiative he co-founded with Bill and Melinda Gates in 2010 — encouraging billionaires to commit at least half of their wealth to philanthropy.
In a brief statement, Buffett reaffirmed his longstanding philanthropic goals, stating that he remained committed to ensuring that his wealth benefits society, particularly through healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation efforts.
Berkshire Hathaway, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, oversees a vast portfolio of companies and investments, and Buffett’s personal net worth remains among the highest in the world, despite his continued donations.
