Vaulted Brick Illuminating Homes : horno de pan

Trends
Local architecture studio ERDC Arquitectos introduces a look at the Horno de Pan, which directly translates to ‘brick oven.’ It is designed in a vaulted form that is open on either end through glazed walls that is able to transform the house into an illuminating force during the nighttime.

The house has a brick and glass building that is framed by an arched roof and mezzanine level and it is located in Quito, Ecuador. It is inspired by “a close reading of the context, needs, and resources.” The designers opted for brick because it is readily available locally — it also has structural flexibility for the team to work with and boasts thermal properties as well.
