Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis in a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) welcomed the agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom on Northern Ireland reached on Monday.
“It represents a positive development and it is important that after a long round of negotiations between the two sides, logic and realism prevailed,” he underlined.
Highlighting the importance of the agreement, the alternate foreign minister underlined that its individual provisions solve technical problems as a result of Brexit and concerned trade transactions, while at the same time opening a new page in the relations between the United Kingdom and the EU.
Also, Varvitsiotis noted that throughout the relevant discussions, the EU member states, including Greece, showed unity and supported the negotiating line of the European Commission, with the aim of finding a sustainable solution.
