The UN Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for the recent abduction of eight UN civilian staff and the looting of a UN convoy in Kadugli, Sudan. According to a UNSC report, RSF fighters seized eight vehicles and 280,000 liters of fuel from the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) logistics convoy, which had just delivered supplies to the Joint Border Verification Monitoring Mission (JBVMM).

The UNSC expressed grave concern over the escalating threats against UNISFA peacekeepers and civilians, warning that such attacks may amount to war crimes. In response, they demanded the immediate return of the looted vehicles and fuel and urged all parties to allow UNISFA to operate freely and without interference.

The Council also praised the UNISFA Force Commander for ensuring the safe return of the abducted staff, reaffirming their strong support for the mission, which has been operating since 2011. UNISFA is tasked with monitoring the Sudan-South Sudan border, facilitating humanitarian access, and protecting civilians and aid workers in conflict zones.

As tensions escalate in Sudan, the international community continues to demand accountability and the safe return of stolen resources and personnel.
