A Ukrainian cameraman was injured on February 4 when a Russian FPV (First-Person View) drone targeted a TV crew near Vovchansk, in the Kharkiv region. The attack took place while journalists from TSN and 1+1 Marathon were filming a report on a Ukrainian military unit.
The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation into a potential war crime has been initiated under Article 438, Part 1 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. The assault occurred in broad daylight, raising concerns about the increasing use of drones to target media professionals and humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
The attack has intensified scrutiny of the safety risks faced by journalists in Ukraine, as they continue to report on the ongoing war. The Chuhuiv District Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation into the drone strike, with efforts underway to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable.
This incident highlights the growing threat posed to journalists, as Russia’s use of FPV drones evolves from a military strategy to an apparent tool for silencing press freedom in conflict areas.
