Ukraine is actively exploring the establishment of a logistics hub in Egypt to streamline the delivery of its agricultural products to North Africa. Vitaliy Koval, Ukraine’s Minister of Agriculture, announced on Tuesday that the government is assessing key locations and port infrastructure for the potential site, which would facilitate the transport of Ukrainian grains, oilseeds, and vegetable oils to the region.
Ukraine, a leading global producer of agricultural commodities, has long been a vital supplier to Egypt. In the 2023/24 season, Ukraine shipped 3.87 million metric tons of corn and 1.72 million tons of wheat to Egypt. With recent geopolitical shifts, particularly following the collapse of Syria’s Russian-backed regime, Ukraine is intensifying efforts to secure a stronger foothold in the North African market.
Koval, alongside Ukraine’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mykola Nahornyi, visited several potential locations for logistics facilities, including elevators, warehouses, and distribution centers. The proposed hub is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and capacity of Ukrainian exports to Egypt and neighboring regions.
The move underscores Ukraine’s growing focus on expanding its agricultural exports amidst a shifting global market.
