A horrifying situation unfolded when a city bus plowed into a daycare center, and two young kids lost their lives as a result of the tragedy.
The ordeal went down on Wednesday morning in Laval, Quebec—a Canadian city that’s about an hour away from Montreal.
According to CBC News, a bus associated with the city’s public transit system crashed into the daycare center at around 8:30 a.m. As a result, two children lost their lives. Additionally, six kids sustained injuries and were treated at nearby hospitals, though they’re reportedly all in stable condition.
Witness Believes The Crime Was Intentional, Says Driver Was ‘In Another World’
A witness named Hamdi Ben Chaabane lives near the crime scene, and he estimates that the bus was going approximately 20 miles per hour when it crashed into the daycare.
Notably, he shared, “From what I saw, it wasn’t an accident.”
The witness also spoke on how the driver began to act a fool after the collision.
“He opened the door. He took off all his clothes. He was totally naked. We don’t know why he did that. We dove on him. We tried to subdue him.”
Ben Chaabane went on to describe the driver as being “in another world,” noting that the whole experience “was a nightmare.”
“It was a nightmare. It’s horrible. He didn’t stop yelling. He wasn’t saying words.”
Driver Had Been Employed With The City For 10 Years Before Daycare Incident
Stéphane Boyer, the mayor of Laval, noted that the driver—identified as Pierre Ny St-Amand—had been employed with the city’s transportation department for 10 years. She also noted that the investigation is ongoing.
“There is a hypothesis that this was an intentional act but it will have to be confirmed by the investigation.”
According to The Independent, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented that the tragedy is “the biggest nightmare imaginable for all parents.”
The Suspect Has Been Charged With First-Degree Muder
Currently, Pierre Ny St-Amand is reportedly charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.
