Tiger Woods facing backlash from women’s group for prank

Tiger Woods is facing backlash from the Women’s Global Empowerment Fund over his recent prank that saw him hand fellow golfer Justin Thomas a tampon following a drive at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles on Friday.

Woods offered a weak apology after the fact, but he is still facing criticism for the prank.

Karen Sugar, the CEO of the Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, told TMZ Sports that Woods’ prank was misogynistic, tone-deaf and “straight-up disrespectful to women and girls all over the world.”

Along with that, Sugar also wondered if Woods was suggesting that “periods are embarrassing or shameful or a sign of weakness?”

The criticism Woods is facing is warranted, and he had to know it would be coming if anybody caught wind of it. That is probably why he tried to do it so quietly without bringing much attention to it.

The backlash against Woods for the action has been swift and fierce, with USA Today and Sports Illustrated publishing scathing columns criticizing his actions.

Woods is still participating in the invitational this weekend after making the cut through the first two rounds.
