Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris TD, has called on members of the Irish diaspora and those recently returned to Ireland to participate in the Global Irish Survey, a key initiative informing the Government’s forthcoming Diaspora Strategy.

The survey marks the first of its kind and is designed to capture the views and priorities of Irish communities abroad and at home. It forms part of a broader consultation process involving Irish community groups and stakeholders worldwide, aimed at shaping a strategy that reflects the evolving needs of the global Irish population.

Strengthening Global Connections

Speaking on the importance of engaging with the diaspora, the Tánaiste said:

“Everywhere I travel, I meet Irish citizens and those with an affinity for Ireland. I am inspired by their contributions to their adopted countries and their commitment to strengthening ties with Ireland.”

Harris emphasized that the new strategy will build on the commitments outlined in the Programme for Government, ensuring Ireland’s relationship with its diaspora remains dynamic, inclusive, and responsive to changing global circumstances.

A Platform for Participation

The Global Irish Survey offers a platform for individuals to share their perspectives on issues affecting their communities, helping to shape policy over the next five years. The initiative follows the last diaspora strategy launched in 2020, acknowledging the significant changes in Ireland and globally since then.

“The response to our engagements has been overwhelmingly positive,” Harris added. “I encourage all members of our diaspora to take part. Your insights will help shape a strategy that supports our modern and diverse global Irish family.”
