Dublin, Ireland — Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris TD, held a productive virtual meeting yesterday 12/06/2025 with Ambassador Jamieson Greer, United States Trade Representative, to discuss ongoing EU–U.S. trade relations.

The meeting builds on the Tánaiste’s recent visit to Washington in April, during which he held discussions with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, focusing on the transatlantic economic relationship.

During today’s engagement, the Tánaiste and Ambassador Greer exchanged views on recent trade developments, particularly in relation to EU–U.S. trade negotiations. Both parties expressed optimism over the recent positive momentum in talks aimed at resolving long-standing trade disputes.

Following the meeting, Tánaiste Harris stated:

“This afternoon I had the opportunity to speak with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and highlight the deep and mutually beneficial economic relationship between Ireland and the United States. I emphasised that tariffs jeopardise this partnership—they are detrimental to businesses, consumers, and workers on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The Tánaiste reaffirmed Ireland’s strong support for a negotiated solution, underlining that diplomacy and dialogue remain the EU’s and Ireland’s preferred approach. He also welcomed Ambassador Greer’s recent meeting with European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič in Paris, which he described as encouraging for future progress.

He added:

“I assured Ambassador Greer of Ireland’s ongoing commitment to supporting a balanced and mutually advantageous agreement between the U.S. and the EU. We agreed to stay in close contact as efforts continue to resolve the trade issues at hand.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that both sides acknowledged the importance of strengthening transatlantic cooperation, particularly as global trade faces increasing challenges.
