In a grim update from Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, 50 civilians—including 10 volunteers—have been killed, and dozens more detained over the past week, according to local emergency response groups. The Khartoum Locality Emergency Room, an independent aid organization, reported that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias were responsible for the violence, which also included reports of torture and abductions.
The group, which provides essential medical aid and food to civilians caught in the ongoing conflict, emphasized that its efforts have been severely hindered by the warring factions, including the RSF’s obstructive tactics. In addition to the 50 deaths, 82 civilians, including 12 volunteers, were detained.
While emergency teams have tried to respond to the crisis, they’ve faced growing dangers from armed groups. The RSF has launched retaliatory attacks in several Khartoum neighborhoods, particularly in the city’s central, eastern, and southern areas, as the Sudanese military continues its advances. Reports from residents and local groups suggest that fleeing civilians have been targeted and killed, further escalating the humanitarian toll.
The humanitarian situation is dire, with fears that the death toll will continue to rise unless swift international intervention can address the mounting violence and human rights violations.
