The Co-Chairs of the United Nations High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, together with the Co-Chairs of its Working Groups, express deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region.
In light of the recent escalation of violence and instability, the decision has been taken to temporarily suspend the main sessions of the Conference. This regrettable but necessary measure reflects the urgent need to de-escalate tensions, protect civilian lives, and re-establish an environment conducive to meaningful diplomatic engagement.
These developments underscore the fragility of the current moment and reaffirm the critical importance of collective action to uphold international law, prevent further bloodshed, and urgently advance a sustainable path to peace.
Continued Commitment to the Conference Objectives
Despite the temporary suspension of the high-level segment, the Co-Chairs reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the objectives of the Conference and the broader pursuit of a just and durable resolution to the Palestinian question.
The Roundtables—a core component of the Conference—will proceed as planned in the coming weeks. These sessions, informed by the work of the thematic Working Groups, are intended to consolidate concrete, coordinated commitments by the international community in support of the two-State solution, based on relevant United Nations resolutions, international law, and the 1967 lines.
The Co-Chairs will announce the rescheduling of the high-level segment as soon as conditions permit, in alignment with the shared determination to sustain diplomatic momentum and deliver tangible progress.
A Call to Action
The unfolding crisis highlights the imperative for renewed international unity and action. We collectively call for:
- The immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and across the region;
- Respect for international humanitarian and human rights law;
- The protection of civilians and unimpeded humanitarian access;
- A redoubling of efforts to achieve a negotiated, comprehensive, and just peace, anchored in the two-State solution—with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace, security, and mutual recognition.
We reaffirm our commitment to the principles of state sovereignty, non-violence, peaceful resolution of disputes, and the dignity and rights of all peoples in the region. The Conference remains a vital platform for promoting these principles, and we call upon all parties—governments, regional organisations, civil society, and the international community—to intensify their engagement in support of peace.
Conclusion
The Co-Chairs and Working Group members reiterate their shared resolve to continue the work of the Conference without interruption, despite current challenges. This is a moment not to withdraw from diplomacy, but to double our efforts in pursuit of peace, justice, and security for all in the region.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to realising the vision of a viable, sovereign, and independent State of Palestine, alongside the State of Israel, with mutually agreed borders, and with Jerusalem as the shared capital of both states.
