Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Sarah Morgenthau traveled to Warsaw, Poland October 23-25 to expand upon our strong and resilient bilateral trade partnership. Bilateral trade between the United States and Poland has increased significantly in the last decade, reaching $24.2 billion in 2023, the highest in history.

Special Representative Morgenthau represented the United States at the U.S.-Poland-Ukraine Veterans Reintegration Forum, which showcased the countries’ trilateral cooperation. The conference brought together leaders in government and the business community to share tools and best practices to assist veterans of Russia’s war of aggression in returning to the workforce. Breakout sessions at the forum focused on mental health, physical rehabilitation, prosthetics, and gender-specific assistance for female veterans.

While in Warsaw, Special Representative Morgenthau delivered keynote remarks at AmCham Manufacturers’ Forum 2024 and participated in a roundtable with Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. She also joined U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski for a discussion with women business leaders on economic opportunities for women in Poland, obstacles they face, and the importance of the U.S. and Polish private sectors in Ukraine’s economic recovery.

Additionally, Special Representative Morgenthau met with senior Polish government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology to discuss our growing energy cooperation, including the construction of Poland’s first nuclear powerplant by U.S. companies Bechtel and Westinghouse. They also discussed Poland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in January 2025.

In her engagements, the Special Representative stressed the importance of Poland’s support for Ukraine since the start of Putin’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Poland continues to host nearly one million Ukrainian refugees, demonstrating a remarkable display of generosity and solidarity, and has served as a logistics hub to deliver critical humanitarian aid and equipment to Ukraine.
