SOS Mediterranee Migrant Rescue NGO Saves 25 Migrants Off Libyan Coast

Human Rights

On Sunday, SOS Mediterranee, a French migrant rescue NGO, successfully brought 25 people aboard its Ocean Viking vessel after spotting a distressed boat off the Libyan coast. Among the rescued individuals were three women and seven minors, including five unaccompanied children, with two of them under four years old. The survivors are currently receiving care from SOS Mediterranee and the Red Cross.

The rescue was triggered by an alert from Alarm Phone, a hotline for migrants in distress during their perilous Mediterranean journey. This operation comes amid growing concerns over the dangers migrants face when attempting to reach Europe. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 247 people have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean so far in 2025.

SOS Mediterranee continues to play a critical role in saving lives in the Mediterranean, where many migrants risk everything for the hope of a better life in Europe.
