Sofia Airport has signed a contract with Alstef Group – a Partner of the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group – for a completely new baggage handling system. The agreement includes supply, installation and maintenance of a state-of-the-art passenger baggage management solution.
Implementation of the system is said to provide a major leap for airport operations in terms of passenger service, security levels and reliability. The new baggage handling system has a capacity of up to 2,400 bags per hour, enabling movement of millions of secured checked bags annually at Sofia Airport.
“The baggage management system is key to how the airport operates,” said Jesus Caballero, CEO, Sofia Airport. “We’re buying a cutting-edge technology solution that will make us faster and more efficient for the benefit of our millions of passengers. The project is part of the airport’s overall transformation for which we are investing BGN 150 million by the end of 2025.”
The system conveys hold luggage from the check-in hall through four levels of security process and maintains built-in triple redundancy, in order to achieve the highest level of reliability, efficiency and on-schedule performance. The new system allows both full self-service (self-bag drop) at pre-check-in for a flight, and service with check-in agents.
“Alstef Group is delighted to be selected as the baggage handling system technology partner of Sofia Airport and to support the airport’s quest to deliver a more streamlined and enjoyable passenger experience,” said Nicolas Breton, CEO, Alstef Group.
