Samsung Executives Challenge $81M Penalty in Indian Import Tax Dispute

Technology

Samsung executives are contesting an $81 million penalty in an Indian court, part of a broader $601 million tax case over alleged mislabeling of telecom equipment imports to evade tariffs between 2018 and 2021. The company denies wrongdoing, arguing the penalty—issued within three days of submitting extensive documentation—was rushed and excessive. Logistics head Ravi Chadha, facing a personal fine of $11.1 million, called the process “unfair.” Six other senior executives are also under scrutiny.
