SAN FRANCISCO, — Cloud software giant Salesforce has pledged to invest $15 billion in San Francisco over the next five years, a move designed to reinforce the city’s status as the global hub for artificial intelligence. The announcement coincided with the opening of Dreamforce 2025, the company’s annual technology conference, which has drawn nearly 50,000 attendees and millions more online.
Building an AI Ecosystem
The investment will fund the creation of a new AI Incubator Hub at Salesforce’s San Francisco campus, designed to support start-ups and accelerate the development of next-generation AI applications. The company also plans to expand workforce training programs, equipping employees and apprentices with AI skills to meet rising demand across industries.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff described the initiative as both a business strategy and a civic commitment: “This $15 billion investment reflects our deep commitment to our hometown — advancing AI innovation, creating jobs, and helping companies and our communities thrive in this incredible new era.”
Agentic Enterprises and the Future of Work
A central focus of the initiative is the concept of “Agentic Enterprises” — organizations where employees work alongside AI agents that handle repetitive tasks, freeing people to focus on higher-value work. Salesforce argues this model will define the next phase of corporate transformation, blending human creativity with machine efficiency.
Economic and Social Impact
The company estimates that Dreamforce alone will generate $130 million in revenue for San Francisco this year and create 35,000 local jobs. Salesforce and the Benioff family have already contributed more than $1 billion in philanthropic donations to the Bay Area, and the new investment is expected to further stimulate the city’s economy, particularly in real estate and technology services.
San Francisco’s AI Race
San Francisco has emerged as a magnet for AI firms, with more than 80 companies leasing nearly one million square feet of office space in 2025. The city is home to leading players such as OpenAI and Anthropic, alongside a growing ecosystem of venture capital and legal firms specializing in AI. Salesforce’s commitment is seen as a strategic effort to anchor this momentum and counter concerns about the city’s economic recovery.
