Ruth Elton, a revered British-born missionary who dedicated her life to Christian service in Nigeria, passed away on August 30, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born in the United Kingdom in 1933, Elton relocated to Nigeria with her parents—Sydney Granville and Hannah Elton—in 1937. Her family played a foundational role in the Pentecostal revival movement across the country. Over the decades, Elton served in various communities including Okene, Egbe, Koton Karfe, and Ilesa, where she eventually settled.

Fluent in English, Yoruba, and Ebira, Elton became a naturalized Nigerian citizen in 1975, renouncing her British citizenship to fully commit to her missionary work. She remained unmarried and celibate throughout her life, focusing on evangelism, community development, and public health education, particularly efforts to reduce infant mortality in rural areas.

Elton authored several Christian books and was widely respected for her humility, resilience, and lifelong dedication to Nigeria’s spiritual and social welfare.

Tributes have poured in from religious leaders and community members, honoring her legacy as one of Nigeria’s most enduring and impactful missionaries.
