Report: Raiders ‘looking into’ signing Tom Brady

Sports

With Derek Carr seemingly on his way out of Las Vegas, the Raiders are reportedly considering bringing in the “GOAT” as his replacement.

Las Vegas just finished a highly disappointing 6-11 campaign and missed the playoffs for the seventh time in nine seasons since Carr took over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2014. Brady, meanwhile, is preparing to play in the postseason for the 13th consecutive winter, including all three years he’s been with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady will be vying for his eighth Super Bowl title, but this may be his most difficult task yet, as Tampa Bay finished their unimpressive 2022 campaign at 8-9. Thanks to “TB12” and company playing in the worst division in the NFL this season though, the sub-.500 mark was good enough to hold off a trio of 7-10 teams in the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.

If the Raiders are thinking about taking a chance on Garoppolo instead, he would carry more of a potential of being a quarterback beyond 2023 than Brady. “Jimmy G.” is 31 years old (like Carr) and Brady is 45.

Garoppolo is on the shelf with a foot injury, but according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, there’s a chance he could come back late in the playoffs, depending on how far the San Francisco 49ers advance. They host the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round on Saturday.

Breer isn’t the first to mention Las Vegas’ interest in Brady and/or Garoppolo. Last week, it was reported by Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the three-time MVP was “clearly a person of interest” for the Raiders.

Coming off of a down season and seeing how the last couple of weeks played out, it appears that Las Vegas is certainly planning to trade in their “Carr” for a new vehicle. Depending on what transpires on the NFC side of the NFL playoffs in January, Brady or Garoppolo could be the next engine making its way into Allegiant Stadium.
