📍 Beijing, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that humanity faces a pivotal choice between peace and war during a major military parade held in Tiananmen Square on September 3. Flanked by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Xi delivered the remarks in front of more than 50,000 spectators, marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.
The event showcased China’s latest military advancements, including hypersonic missiles, stealth drones, and underwater weaponry, in what analysts described as a highly choreographed display of national strength and diplomatic alignment. Xi emphasized the need for dialogue, mutual respect, and global cooperation, stating, “Today, mankind is faced with the choice of peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win or zero-sum”.
The parade followed a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), where Xi hosted several Eurasian leaders. The presence of Putin and Kim—both facing Western sanctions—underscored China’s growing strategic partnerships and its positioning in an increasingly multipolar world.
Western leaders were notably absent from the event, which has been interpreted by observers as a symbolic challenge to U.S. influence and a call for alternative and balanced global leadership models.
