President Trump Proposes Shift to Semiannual Corporate Earnings Reports

President Donald Trump suggested Monday that U.S. companies should consider moving from quarterly to semiannual earnings reporting. In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued the change would reduce costs and allow executives to concentrate more on long-term business strategy.

The proposal, which Trump noted would require approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), echoes past critiques of short-termism in American corporate governance. He cited China’s long-term management approach as a contrast, stating, “China has a 50 to 100 year view on management of a company, whereas we run our companies on a quarterly basis… Not good!”

While the idea is not new, it reignites debate over balancing transparency with strategic flexibility in financial reporting.
