U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to host the presidents of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda in the coming weeks to formalize a peace agreement aimed at ending decades of conflict in eastern DRC, according to senior Africa adviser Massad Boulos.

Speaking at the U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Luanda, Angola, on Tuesday, Boulos confirmed that the foreign ministers of both countries will be in Washington on June 27 for a formal signing ceremony, following agreement on the text of the accord last week.

Boulos emphasized that a lasting peace in the Great Lakes region would create a more stable environment for U.S. investment. “Conflict has long prevented the region from realizing the full potential of its people and natural resources,” he said.

Eastern Congo is rich in high-value minerals such as tantalum and tungsten—resources that have both fueled violence and attracted international interest. The Trump administration has reportedly linked the prospect of a future mineral trade agreement with Kinshasa to its broader efforts to support peace and stability in the region.
