A chartered flight carrying over 300 South Korean workers landed safely at Incheon International Airport on Friday, following their release from several days of detention in the United States. The workers had been held by U.S. immigration authorities amid an investigation into alleged visa irregularities involving subcontracted labor.
South Korean officials confirmed the group’s return and stated that consular support had been provided throughout the detention period. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to conduct a full review of the circumstances surrounding the incident in coordination with U.S. counterparts.
The workers were reportedly employed at various industrial sites across the U.S. and had been detained during a broader enforcement operation. No formal charges have been announced, and authorities have not disclosed further details about the investigation.
The incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of overseas labor practices and visa compliance, with lawmakers in Seoul calling for stronger protections for South Korean nationals working abroad.
