Before we get too deep into things here — and because there’s a lot of confusion about how titles work — let me explain:
When Archie was born, Meghan and Prince Harry were the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which meant that he was entitled to a “courtesy title.” This would have been the Earl of Dumbarton, but M+H chose not to give him this title. That’s why he’s just Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
He was not entitled to a prince title at birth because, due to current guidelines, the great-grandchildren of the monarch are not princes and princesses UNLESS they are the kids of the direct heir. (This explains why Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales’s kids do have prince or princess titles.)
BUT. This was all the case when Queen Elizabeth II was alive. Now that she has died, Archie is no longer the great-grandchild of the monarch. King Charles III is his direct grandfather, and children born of the son or sons of the monarch are immediately entitled to prince or princess titles.
