Parents in Cork, Ireland are staging a protest today over the shortage of special education school placements for children with special needs. An estimated 94 children in Cork are without a school place for the upcoming school year, despite the growing demand for specialized support.

The march, organized by Nicole Hosford, will begin at Cork City Hall at 2:30 PM and will proceed to Grand Parade. It aims to raise awareness of the issue, with speeches from TDs (Members of the Irish Parliament) and a musical performance by the Kabin Crew, a local group that recently released a rap addressing the lack of school spaces for children with special needs.

Hosford, one of the event organizers, emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting that many families are struggling with the uncertainty of their children’s education for the new term. The protest seeks to pressure authorities into providing immediate solutions for these vulnerable children.

The event is expected to bring attention to an ongoing issue in Ireland, where parents and advocacy groups are calling for more resources and better planning to ensure all children, regardless of their needs, have access to an appropriate education.
