PRAGUE, 12 September 2025 — Over 200 delegates from OSCE member states, partner organizations, civil society, and expert groups convened in Prague for the Chairpersonship Forum titled “Building a Resilient Future in a Changing Climate.” The two-day event, held under Finland’s 2025 OSCE Chairpersonship, focused on strengthening responses to climate-driven security challenges.
Organized in collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and OSCE institutions, the Forum emphasized the need for integrated strategies to address environmental risks amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Elina Valtonen highlighted the urgency of maintaining climate cooperation, noting that Russia’s war in Ukraine has complicated efforts in the region.
Key sessions explored investment in climate resilience, cross-sectoral collaboration, data innovation, and youth engagement. A research study commissioned by Finland’s Foreign Ministry, “Strengthening the OSCE’s Climate and Security Agenda,” was also presented, followed by a panel on enhancing the organization’s role in climate security.
The Forum concluded with a unified call to treat climate resilience not as a policy choice, but as a strategic necessity for sustainable development and regional stability.
