OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App Store, Opening New Era for AI‑Powered Apps

World

OpenAI has officially launched a built‑in App Store for ChatGPT, marking one of the platform’s most significant evolutions since its debut. The new marketplace—referred to as the ChatGPT App Directory—allows developers to publish third‑party integrations directly inside the chatbot, transforming ChatGPT from a conversational AI into a full‑scale app ecosystem.

The rollout enables hundreds of millions of users to access services such as Spotify, Zillow, DoorDash, Adobe and Apple Music without leaving the chat interface. Instead of downloading standalone apps, users can now trigger tasks, browse tools and connect services seamlessly through natural‑language prompts.

OpenAI’s new Apps SDK, currently in beta, gives developers the ability to build and submit their own integrations for review. This shift positions ChatGPT as a potential competitor to traditional app marketplaces by offering intent‑driven, conversational access rather than conventional software installation.

The launch follows an internal push to improve reliability and expand real‑world functionality. With the App Store now live across web and mobile, OpenAI is signaling a major step toward turning ChatGPT into a universal interface for digital services—one where AI becomes the operating layer for everyday tasks.
