Dublin, 1 October 2025 — LaNua Medical, a University College Dublin (UCD) spin-out, has secured €6 million in funding under Ireland’s Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) to accelerate development of its pioneering ECORE™ device, designed to modernise embolisation procedures.

Embolisation is a minimally invasive technique used by surgeons and interventional radiologists to control blood flow in targeted areas of the body. LaNua’s ECORE™ device, shaped like an umbrella, is engineered to enter blood vessels deep within the body and create an occlusive barrier. This innovation is expected to make procedures safer, faster, and more cost-effective, while expanding treatment options for conditions such as internal bleeding, vascular malformations, and both benign and malignant tumours.

The project is a collaboration between LaNua Medical, Integer Holdings, and UCD, combining clinical expertise, advanced engineering, and industry-scale manufacturing. According to the company, the device has the potential to improve patient outcomes, reduce hospital stays, lower healthcare costs, and ease the workload of medical practitioners by shortening procedure times.

Dr. Cormac Farrelly, interventional radiologist and co-founder of LaNua Medical, described the funding as “a milestone that will accelerate clinical validation and bring this technology closer to patients who need it most.”

The DTIF, a €500 million initiative under Ireland’s National Development Plan, supports projects that demonstrate strong potential to transform industries and deliver global impact. LaNua’s ECORE™ project was one of eight selected in the latest funding round, receiving a share of €33.1 million announced by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

With this investment, LaNua Medical is positioning itself at the forefront of medtech innovation, targeting a global embolisation market valued at over $2 billion.
