Nokia LTE/5G Drone System obtains EASA Design Verification Report

Nokia Solutions and Networks OY (Nokia) has obtained the EASA Design Verification Report (DVR) for the M2 risk mitigation with a High Level of Robustness (M2 High) and enhanced containment.

The main objective of this evaluation was to assess the ground risk reduction and containment function demonstrated by Nokia’s LTE/5G Drone System, and to define the operational limitations and conditions required to achieve enhanced containment and M2 High within a SAIL II operational environment.

This achievement is particularly significant, as Nokia, in its first Design Verification engagement with EASA, is also the first applicant to obtain EASA no technical objection for M2 High mitigations with a drone in that weight category. The process required exploring several new technical domains and means of compliance.

The EASA Design Verification was conducted in accordance with the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) methodology, as defined in Regulation (EU) 2019/947.

The DVR enables Nokia, and operators in general, to obtain operational authorization from the national authority for their specific concept of operations (ConOps). In the case of Nokia, their ConOps primarily focuses on industrial inspection activities, among other applications.
