The Catholic Diocese of Shendam is urgently seeking prayers for the safe return of Fr. Cornelius Manzak Damulak, who was kidnapped on Thursday, February 6. Fr. Damulak, a student at Veritas University in Abuja, was taken from his residence in Zuma 2, located within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
In an official statement, the Diocese’s Chancellor, Fr. Joshua Daffa, expressed deep sadness over the abduction and called on Christians and people of goodwill to pray for Fr. Damulak’s quick and safe release. “We entrust our brother, Fr. Cornelius, to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints,” said Fr. Daffa, hoping for his strength and safe return.
This incident comes amid ongoing insecurity in Nigeria, exacerbated by militant groups like Boko Haram and violent Fulani herdsmen. Boko Haram, which began its insurgency in 2009, has been responsible for numerous attacks on religious groups, political entities, and civilians, with the Fulani Militia also playing a role in the violence.
As the Diocese of Shendam appeals for support, the community remains hopeful for Fr. Damulak’s safe return.
