Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni doesn’t want to hear any talk about a supposed Super Bowl hangover this spring.
“What it does, you get close and it just fuels your hunger,” Sirianni said during the annual league meetings about the Eagles losing Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs this past February, per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “You know the steps that you had to take to get there and you know every detail matters and you’re going to try to recapture everything you can as far as the work to put in. It just makes you more hungry.”
Sirianni also borrowed a phrase used by star quarterback Jalen Hurts and noted members of the Eagles are “starving for this s—” after the 38-35 defeat against Kansas City.
Sirianni and company have had a rough offseason as it pertains to losses. Jeremy Brener of FanNation’s Eagles Today mentioned that multiple noteworthy players on Philadelphia’s Super Bowl Sunday roster are now employed by other clubs, and the Eagles’ coordinators for that title contest are head coaches elsewhere.
Sirianni doesn’t intend to change an approach that helped the Eagles win the division title, accumulate a 14-3 regular-season record and cruise to playoff wins over the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. He also isn’t taking any victory laps following the team’s success during his second campaign in charge.
“I don’t care what happened last year,” Sirianni added during his comments. “I don’t care that we went this record and played in the Super Bowl or anything like that. We don’t give a crap about what the numbers say about who was able to get back to the Super Bowl. … It’s going to take day-in and day-out work. And I know that’s cliche but when you can set your sights narrow as far as here’s what we’re focusing on today, it helps you stay focused on that day and continue to build and build and build.”
According to OddsChecker, the Eagles began the first full week of April tied with the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers at +900 betting odds to win Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024. Only the Chiefs were above those clubs in the odds at +650 as of Monday afternoon.
