Apparently, the roof folds of this modern house renovations in Melbourne are a highly functional design decision. Named the 10 Fold House—of course, referencing this architectural peculiarity, the project was headed by Timmins+Whyte. What you see when you look at the structure from the back is a partial glimpse of the beautifully angled roof. It is complemented by the slick aesthetic of the exterior. The roof folds, however, are hard to discern from this vantage point yet their presence is felt throughout the house. The 10 roof folds are a way to bring light inside and illuminate the interior. This creates “a sense of expansion and compression” and the effect pairs well with the modern furniture.
