Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, has unveiled the Irish Aid Annual Report 2024, marking 50 years of Ireland’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme. The report details Ireland’s humanitarian and development contributions across more than 100 countries, supporting vulnerable communities amid global crises.
In 2024, Ireland’s ODA reached €2.35 billion, representing 0.56% of Gross National Income (GNI). Excluding first-year Ukrainian refugee costs, the adjusted figure stood at 0.41%—an increase from 0.38% in 2023. Irish Aid’s support for NGOs alone benefited over 8 million people worldwide.
The report highlights Ireland’s rapid response to emergencies in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan, alongside long-term development efforts targeting poverty and hunger. Ireland’s aid is delivered through partnerships with governments, UN agencies, and civil society organisations.
Tánaiste Simon Harris TD praised Irish Aid’s transformative role, calling it “the embodiment of who we are and how we view the world.” Minister Richmond emphasized Ireland’s global leadership in humanitarian support and reaffirmed the enduring values guiding its international development work.
