Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan TD has approved €293,252 in funding to support 64 small-scale local festivals and summer schools taking place throughout Ireland in 2025. The funding is part of the Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools Scheme, designed to assist cultural events that may not qualify for support from larger national bodies such as Fáilte Ireland or the Arts Council.

The scheme provides grants of up to €5,000 per event, allocated through a competitive application process that closed on 4 April 2024. It aims to promote community engagement, cultural heritage, and artistic expression at the grassroots level.

Minister O’Donovan highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating:

“Culture and the arts connect us, celebrate our traditions, and enrich our communities. These local events showcase the creativity and dedication of organisers, volunteers, and artists across Ireland.”

The funded events span a wide range of disciplines, including music, literature, folklore, circus arts, and multicultural performances, offering inclusive programming that reflects Ireland’s diverse cultural landscape. Notable recipients include:

  • Iorras Arts Centre Ltd in Belmullet, hosting a four-day literary festival
  • Circus 250 Productions on Achill Island, delivering outdoor circus workshops for children
  • Thomas D’Arcy McGee Summer School in Carlingford, exploring global issues through arts and dialogue
  • Drogheda Indian Association, presenting traditional dance, music, and cultural cuisine

The scheme complements broader government efforts to enhance Ireland’s cultural tourism and support local arts initiatives. Full details of the 2025 allocations are available on the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport’s website.
