DUBLIN, Oct. 21, 2025 — Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O’Callaghan has issued a statement on the recent incident in Saggart, West Dublin, stressing that the safety of the young girl involved remains the Government’s priority and that Gardaí acted swiftly to bring her to safety.

O’Callaghan confirmed he had been briefed by An Garda Síochána and senior officials, and has requested a detailed review of the asylum application process linked to the case. He emphasised that Gardaí had assured him there is no ongoing threat to public safety and underlined that there is no evidence of a correlation between International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centres and crime levels in local communities.

Escalation After the Statement

Hours after the Minister’s remarks, protests erupted outside the Citywest Hotel in Saggart, which houses asylum seekers.
