DUBLIN, June 2025 — Former New York City Mayor and Bloomberg LP founder Mike Bloomberg has lauded Ireland’s economic progress, saying the country is “writing a new chapter in its history” as it continues to attract global investment, while the United States grapples with concerns over economic growth.
Speaking at a Bloomberg event in Dublin, the former U.S. presidential candidate praised Ireland’s skilled workforce and pro-business environment, calling it a model for innovation and foreign direct investment. “Ireland’s educated, tech-savvy workforce and its strong ties to global markets make it a magnet for business,” he said.
Bloomberg drew a sharp contrast with the current state of the U.S. economy, expressing concern about slowing growth and uncertainty. “Now, America is the one that’s worried about growth,” he remarked.
In a wide-ranging speech, Bloomberg also sharply criticised former President Donald Trump’s policies and leadership. He specifically referenced Brexit, calling it the “single stupidest thing any country has ever done,” underscoring his long-standing view that the UK’s departure from the European Union has weakened both Britain and its economic prospects.
Bloomberg’s remarks come amid a continued surge in investment and hiring in Ireland’s tech and finance sectors, bolstered by its EU membership, favourable regulatory environment, and competitive corporate tax rates.
The Bloomberg event brought together political, economic, and industry leaders to discuss future trends in global finance and innovation, with Ireland increasingly highlighted as a strategic hub for international business.
