Harry Maguire is on West Ham’s transfer wish list, but he isn’t likely to leave Manchester United this January, talkSPORT understands.
The Manchester United captain has been linked with a loan move to the London Stadium amid his lack of game time under Erik ten Hag after falling down the centre-back pecking order.
The Red Devils defender – who signed from Leicester City for £80million in 2019 – has started just two games since the season resumed after the World Cup.
This is despite him playing every game for England under Gareth Southgate at Qatar 2022.
And talkSPORT’s transfer guru Alex Crook says there’s substance in The Mirror‘s story linking the defender with the struggling Hammers, however, he believes it’s more likely Maguire will make a permanent move away from Man United in the summer.
“I think the link [with West Ham] will be genuine, but I can’t see Manchester United allowing him to leave, certainly not on loan in the transfer window,” he told talkSPORT Breakfast.
“Those links to Aston Villa proved unfounded in the end, that was denied on all sides.
“The vibe I got from Manchester United was Harry Maguire still has a key part to play for them for the rest of the season because they are still competing on the football front.
“Yes he isn’t starting games but he is coming on and featuring in most matches, as in the derby when it was tight and United were trying to see out that victory.
“So my hunch was always going to be that he’ll stay this window and then a parting of ways is probably the best for all concerned in the summer.
“I guess the caveat to that is if Maguire feels he isn’t getting enough minutes under his belt, he could well go to Erik ten Hag and to the board and ask to be let go, that might see a change of stance.
“But at this moment in time, I think he’ll stay.”
