A strong magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Oregon, approximately 142 miles west of the town of Bandon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of six miles beneath the ocean floor.

Despite its strength, the seismic event did not trigger a tsunami warning, and there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries on land. The offshore location and depth likely mitigated its impact on coastal communities.

The USGS continues to monitor the region, which lies near the Cascadia Subduction Zone—one of North America’s most seismically active areas. While the quake serves as a reminder of the region’s geological volatility, officials have not indicated any broader seismic threat at this time.
