A lorry driver making routine deliveries is being hailed as a hero after helping to rescue a man from a burning building in Dublin’s north inner city on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The incident occurred on Granby Row on Monday morning, when a fire broke out in a residential building. Tomasz Zareba, a delivery driver for the Eurospar supermarket chain, was on his regular delivery route when he noticed smoke and flames coming from the building.

According to video footage posted to social media, Zareba parked his lorry directly beneath a window where a man was trapped on an upper floor. The man was then able to jump from the window and land safely on the roof of the vehicle, avoiding serious injury.

Emergency services arrived shortly after the rescue, and the fire was brought under control. The man who jumped from the window was assessed by paramedics at the scene. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Zareba’s quick thinking and calm response have been widely praised online, with many calling his actions courageous.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. No other injuries were reported.
