LEGO has unveiled its most environmentally advanced manufacturing facility to date, a $1 billion investment in Binh Duong, Vietnam, designed to operate on 100% renewable energy by 2026. The new factory is a cornerstone in LEGO’s Asia-Pacific expansion strategy and sets a global benchmark for sustainable industrial development.
🌍 Powering Play with Clean Energy
The 44-hectare site integrates 12,400 rooftop solar panels and will be partly powered by Vietnam’s first large-scale battery storage system, developed in collaboration with the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP).
“The use of battery storage solutions and power purchase agreements… is not just a first for the LEGO Group but among the first for any company in Vietnam,” said Carsten Rasmussen, COO, LEGO Group.
By early 2026, the site will fully transition to renewable energy, aligning with LEGO’s global carbon-neutral goals.
🏗 LEED-Certified Sustainability
The factory’s design adheres to world-class environmental standards:
- LEED Platinum certification for administrative and play buildings.
- LEED Gold certification for all remaining production structures.
- First LEGO site to use 100% paper-based pre-pack bags, replacing plastic.
👷 Future-Proofing the Workforce
Over 100 international trainers have facilitated local upskilling through a tailored training program. The facility also embodies LEGO’s “Future Factory Workplace” vision—prioritizing employee wellbeing, accessibility, and innovation:
- Green workspaces & outdoor break zones
- Prayer and lactation rooms
- Full wheelchair access
👧 Education & Community Impact
LEGO is extending its “Learning through Play” philosophy across Vietnam via partnerships with Save the Children International, the LIFE Centre, and the National Centre for Special Education. Initiatives include:
- LEGO Braille Bricks
- Girls Unstoppable
- Build the Change
More than 60,000 children are expected to benefit from these programs by the end of 2025.
🚚 Strengthening Supply Chains
To support the factory’s operations, LEGO will launch a regional distribution center in Dong Nai province, managed by Kuehne+Nagel, boosting supply chain agility and regional responsiveness.
“This state-of-the-art site reflects our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation,” said Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of the LEGO Group, during the launch ceremony, attended by Vietnam’s Deputy PM Mai Văn Chính and former President Nguyen Minh Triet.
This factory is LEGO’s sixth globally and its first in Vietnam. Beyond production, it serves as a model for responsible business in emerging markets, blending scale, sustainability, and social impact in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions.
