📍 Milan, Italy — Giorgio Armani, the iconic Italian fashion designer and founder of the Armani Group, has died at the age of 91, the company announced on September 4. He passed away peacefully in Milan, surrounded by family, following a period of declining health.
Widely regarded as a pioneer of modern Italian style, Armani was celebrated for his understated elegance and precision tailoring. He rose to global prominence in the 1980s, notably dressing Hollywood stars and redefining red-carpet fashion. His influence extended beyond clothing to include accessories, fragrances, hospitality, and sports, building a lifestyle empire.
Armani founded his namesake company in 1975 with partner Sergio Galeotti, growing it into a global brand with annual revenues exceeding $2.7 billion. Known as “Re Giorgio” or “King Giorgio,” he remained deeply involved in every aspect of the business, serving as CEO and creative director until his death.
The Armani Group paid tribute to its founder, describing him as a “tireless driving force” and pledging to carry forward his legacy with “respect, responsibility, and love.” A public funeral chamber will be held in Milan on September 6–7, followed by a private ceremony.
Armani’s passing marks the end of an era for the fashion industry, leaving behind a legacy defined by innovation, discipline, and timeless style.
