Ministry of Justice secretary of state Chin Malin met with Benjamin Moreau, deputy country representative of the UN Human Rights Office in Cambodia, on January 13 to discuss cooperation in legal and judicial reforms.

According to the ministry, the discussion touched on the electronic criminal case registration system in the capital and provincial courts; modernising court administrations and digital court (E-Court); curriculum at the
Royal Academy for Judicial Professions; capacity building of judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officers in the criminal justice sector; clearing a backlog of court cases; overcrowding in prisons; community work and conditional release programmes.

Malin and also discussed establishing out-of-court dispute settlement mechanisms through mediation in the community.
